Whether I’m in the fields of Flanders with a bomb squad or aboard a floating dairy farm in Rotterdam, I am always capturing visuals — both with my phone and in collaboration with local videographers.

Every four years, Americans joke about leaving the US if their preferred presidential candidate loses. For some though, the idea is more than a punchline — it’s a genuine exit plan. Recent polling suggests nearly 1 in 5 Americans would move abroad if they could, but it’s not clear how just how many have and for what reason. For @theworld , I spoke to Americans who recently moved overseas. Some left over politics while others simply want a better life for their children. In Danish, the word for Spring is Forår, literally “Before Year,” and indicates the start of the new year's cycle. It harkens back to the pre-modern European view that the year began with springtime. I have trouble sitting still — especially after a shot or two of espresso — so it was refreshing to visit journalist-turned-coffee shop owner Elsa Henriksdotter at @bar_a_kaffe in Gothenburg, to learn about this subtle art of taking a step back and enjoying the coffee.
